The original Nalanda University, established around 1,600 years ago, was one of the world's first residential universities. Renowned for its unparalleled scholarly contributions, it attracted intellectuals from across the globe, flourishing for nearly 800 years before its tragic destruction. Today, the new Nalanda University stands as a symbol of resilience and renewal, echoing the sentiment that great institutions, like the human spirit, can rise from the ashes.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 1,749 crore, the new campus boasts 24 large buildings, offering world-class facilities at Nalanda University. It includes six schools: Buddhist Studies, Philosophy & Comparative Religions; Historical Studies; Ecology and Environmental Studies; and Sustainable Development and Management. These schools aim to revive the interdisciplinary and holistic approach to education that Nalanda was originally known for.
The campus is a marvel of sustainable architecture, embodying the principles of Net Zero Energy, Net Zero Emission, Net Zero Water, and Net Zero Waste. This self-sustainable green campus is equipped with solar plants, water treatment and recycling facilities, and extensive water bodies spread over 100 acres.

It offers 137 scholarships to international students from countries such as Argentina, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ghana, Indonesia, and the USA.
