The Farm Bill !!!

On 27th September 2020, the President gave his assert to the three contentious agriculture bills that were earlier passed by the Parliament

The Government had said that these reforms will accelerate growth sector through private sector investment in building the infrastructure and supply chains from farm produce in National and global markets.

The Acts that come under this new policy by the Government are as follows:

The Farmer's Produce Trade and Commerce ( Promotion and Facilitation ) Ordinance, 2020/ Farmer's (Empowerment and Protection ) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020/ and Essential Commodities Act (ECA).

So why are the farmers Protesting??

Since 26th November, the farmers from Punjab and Haryana have started protesting against the new farm laws. The bills lay the framework for allowing farmers two sell produce directly to corporations, this is said by the government. Farmers fear that this may be an excuse to pull off the MSP safety net from their feet.

The Government has also said that if the farmers face any disputes or difficulties they cannot ask help from the Supreme Court. Farmers can seek help only from SDM (Sub Divisional Magistrate).

But the fact is, the SDM can easily be manipulated by anyone who has a lot of money and power in India and at the end the, poor farmers will suffer.
